Today I Bought a Gun – Crisis Magazine

Today I picked up my Mossberg 500 Tactical 12-gauge shotgun with a pistol grip and a short barrel. It is not for game. I hate hunting. There is much blather about guns these days, and not just from the left. Last year one of the deep thinkers at Patheos grunted this very fine argument about …

A Dying Man

Doug Munton

Recently, a man with a terminal disease came to speak with me about his funeral. That is a sobering conversation to have. While we don’t know how long he has left in this life (does anyone really?) it reminded me of some important things.
– We are all dying. This is the land of the dying. I look forward to going to the land of the living one day. But this is not that place.
-Life is fleeting. Time goes forward, never backwards. Young men become old men quickly. We never get to relive it.
-Big things need to be big. At the end of life we tend to think of family and love and joy and faith. Smaller things don’t seem that important from that perspective.
-Faith matters. This man gave his life to Christ just a

France – Cevennes – A Knights Templar Site in Aveyron : La Couvertoirade – 50 photos.

Looks like a great day trip!

La Couvertoirade : One of the most beautiful villages in France.

In the middle of the austere Causse, apparently uninhabited, the village of La Couvertoirade appears like an unreal dream, coming from the past. How amazing to discover a village and its still intact 15th century walls. The houses, the bread oven, the church and the Templar château. Outside the walls, the largest and most beautiful stone lined natural pond of the Larzac.

The Knights Templar and Hospitaller

The Knights Templar were given the land and therefore took possession of the Larzac plateau in the 12th century. The revenue served to maintain the Knights in the Holly Land. In order to ensure the security of the local inhabitants, they created the commandry of Sainte-Eulalie de Cernon, La Cavalerie, La Couvertoirade and Le Vialadu Pas de Jaux; these villages which the Hospitaller Knights inherited during the suppression of the…

Colorado River Trail, Rocky Mountain National Park

On my list of places to visit.

Pursuit of Life

“Great things are done when men and mountains meet.” William Blake

colotrail1-0178Living in Fort Collins, when we hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, we typically hit up trails on the eastern side of the park. With Trail Ridge Road opening this past weekend, we decided to check out the Colorado River Trail on the Grand Lake side of the park.  As much as we love the snow and winter activities, we’ve been itching for some of the trails in the high country to thaw out and be snow free.

When we parked at the half-full lot and then hit the dry trail, we thought we’d lucked out. Sitting at an elevation of 9040 feet, the Colorado River Trail is a gently climbing trail that runs parallel to the river, the trail alternates between heavily forested stretches mixed with high country meadows and marsh land.

Along the trail stand some interesting sites…

Windcrest Dairy Farm – A Local Dairy.

DSCN5915

We decided to take a short drive to Windcrest Dairy Farm. They are located in Trenton, IL just outside of St. Louis, MO.  The Staff were awesome and more than eager to show us around answering any questions we had about the animals and the whole process of making yogurt!

The cows seemed a little unsure of us at first.

Not just cows, but all sorts of animals that you can get up close with!

If you have a chance to stop by do so, it can be a fun and education experience for the kids.  They sell fresh milk, cheeses, and of course.. the yogurt made fresh on right there!

Finding the Meaning.

When an artist creates, they sacrifice a little of themselves in the process.  There’s a glimpse into the soul and character of who they are.  You might see something that is not obviously shared with the world.  Sometimes we can puzzle out the meaning of the message that is being conveyed.

I feel this song is very clear in it’s meaning. About his relationship with Christ.  21 Pilots – Addict With A Pen.

Hello
We haven’t talked in quite some time
I know
I haven’t been the best
Of sons
Hello
I’ve been traveling in
The desert of my mind
And I
Haven’t found a drop
Of life
I haven’t found a drop
Of you
I haven’t found a drop
Of water

I try desperately to run through the sand
As I hold the water
In the palm of my hand
Cause it’s all that I have
It’s all that I need and
The waves of the water
Mean nothing to me
But I try my best
And all that I can to
Hold tightly onto
What’s left in my hand
But no matter how
How tightly I will strain
The sand will slow me down
And the water will drain
I’m just being dramatic
In fact,
I’m only at it again
As an addict with a pen
Who’s addicted to the wind
As it blows me back and fourth
Mindless, spineless, and pretend
Of course I’ll be here again
See you tomorrow
But it’s the end of today
End of my ways
As a walking denial
My trial was filed as a crazy
Suicidal head case
But you specialize in dying
You hear me screaming
Father
And I’m lying here just crying
So wash me with your water
